Feminism and Challenging Beauty Standards
For generations, women have been surrounded by ideas about how beauty should look, how we should dress and even how we should feel about our own bodies. But beauty does not have to follow somebody else's rules.
What If We Could Rewrite the Rules?
Images of supposedly perfect bodies, faces, clothes and lifestyles are everywhere. It can be easy to feel that there is a correct way to look feminine, attractive or desirable.
But there isn't one version of beauty. Age, body shape, personality, confidence, clothing and the way we choose to decorate ourselves are all individual. The freedom to decide what feels beautiful to you is far more powerful than trying to fit somebody else's ideal.
Let Go of Perfection
Perfection is an impossible standard. Real bodies change, age, move and carry the marks of our lives. Those differences are part of being human rather than flaws that need to be hidden.
The same applies to personal style. You do not have to dress for your age, follow a trend or choose jewellery because somebody else considers it appropriate.
Surround Yourself with People Who Celebrate Individuality
Confidence is easier when the people around us respect individuality. Friends who encourage you to experiment, laugh, change your mind and simply be yourself can make an enormous difference.
Other people's judgement often says more about their expectations than it does about you. You are allowed to have your own style.
Self-Expression Doesn't Require Permission
Clothing, art, hair, jewellery and body adornment can all be forms of self-expression. Sometimes that expression is public and sometimes it is completely private.
Intimate jewellery is an interesting example because nobody else necessarily needs to see it. The wearer may choose it entirely for herself — because it feels playful, sensual, beautiful or simply different.
Breaking Taboos Around Women's Bodies
Women's bodies have often been discussed through rules about what should be hidden, what is considered respectable and what kinds of sexuality are acceptable to express. Those attitudes continue to change.
Choosing intimate jewellery can be one small way of deciding for yourself how you relate to your body. It does not need to make a statement to anybody else. The choice itself belongs to the wearer.
AtHidden Delites, that freedom of choice has always been important. Jewellery can be decorative, sensual, amusing, daring or private — and different women will choose it for completely different reasons.
Intimate Jewellery and Personal Choice
Non-piercing intimate jewellery offers a way to experiment without making a permanent change. Designs such as clit clips and pussy dangle jewellery can be worn when the wearer chooses and removed when she wants.
That sense of control is part of the appeal. The jewellery is not about meeting somebody else's standard of femininity. It can simply be about enjoying your own body and your own style.
Freedom to Define Yourself
Feminism means different things to different women, but choice remains central: the freedom to work or stay at home, dress boldly or quietly, wear make-up or none, show your body or cover it, and choose the forms of self-expression that feel right to you.
There is no requirement to be provocative in order to be liberated — and there is no requirement to be conventional either.
The point is having the freedom to decide for yourself.
Wear What Makes You Feel Like You
There is no single feminist way to dress, look or decorate your body. For one woman confidence might mean wearing something daring; for another it may mean ignoring fashion completely.
Beauty becomes much more interesting when women are free to decide what it means for themselves.
Your body. Your jewellery. Your choice.
What Do You Think?
Do you think attitudes towards women's bodies and beauty have changed? Has jewellery, fashion or another form of self-expression ever made you feel more confident? Your comments, feedback and ideas are always welcome.
